At the age of 48, legendary Queen of Pop Whitney Houston, died yesterday at a hotel in Los Angeles. Her cause of death is yet to be concluded, but it is a great shock to millions of people who grew up with her music. When I woke up today and looked at my phone, my BBM was flooded with updates saying 'RIP Whitney Houston'. My first reaction was 'HUH?' I actually didn't want to believe it, until I switched on to BBC News and it was splashed as 'breaking news'. I still can't believe it, ever since, I've been playing her Greatest Hits CD and it's just amazing how many great and inspiring songs she granted us with.
It's really sad that she is now gone, because I believe her voice was a God-given one, one of the best female vocals of our time and I know for a fact that she will be truly missed! I don't know her personally; obviously, but I did grow up with her music and she was one of my Mums favourite artists (God rest her soul). I remember dancing all over the sitting room to 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody', such a tune! She had many classics like Saving All My Love For You, Greatest Love Of All, One Moment In Time, I Have Nothing and Bodyguard favourite I Will Always Love You. So many more that people could either dance to or chill out to. And to me, she never disappointed in her music. Despite her struggle with drugs and alcohol; which I do stress that no one is to judge her on, she was always surrounded by love through her music and through her family. I believe so anyway. Because she mostly sung about LOVE. She was also surrounded by talent; cousin of Dionne Warwick and God-daughter of Aretha Franklin; music was naturally in her.
She wasn't just a fantastic vocal, but she was also a great actress starring in Waiting To Exhale, The Preacher's Wife and Bodyguard; three of my favourite films!
All in all, Whitney Houston was an inspiration to many and will surely be missed.
RIP WHITNEY.
